Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentary and analyses of how popular culture depicts women. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. She is the creator and director of executive for Feminist Frequency A scholarly not-for-profit site that examines the representation of women in popular media narratives. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women as they appear in popular culture. Additionally she has a mission to increase awareness about online harassment targeted towards women as well as marginalized groups of people. Sarkeesian is a graduate in political thought and social theory at York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaker. Sarkeesian delivered speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender and feminism since an early age she launched her website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while she was still at university. The ambitious lady planned to create an online series on the role of gender in games but was the target of a harassment campaign online. The harassment didn't discourage her. The experience only strengthened her as a journalist who is feminist. Her notable contributions to the feminist field have been recognized by numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit focused on the portrayal of women in pop cultural narratives.
